Lake Day

Yesterday I spent all day on Greers Ferry Lake with friends. I do enjoy the good times I spend with them. I hadn't been tubing in a while, but I thought I would partake yesterday. I realize, today, just how old I am getting. My body hurts so badly. I seriously can't walk down the hall faster than some of the 70 year old men that work in my building.

But in the end, the beautiful weather and memories with friends, I guess you could say, makes it all worth it in the end.

I call this one, "My next door neighbor has a cute dog."

And well, I guess this one is called, "My next door neighbor has a cute dog #2." (my creative juices aren't flowing freely today).

These are a few pics from Brecca Holloway's first birthday party. It was quite hysterical. The cake was a bright pink and the dye from the icing dyed her skin. (In some of the pictures, I edited the color and it appears light pink.) Sara (Brecca's mom) said that her skin was pink for a WEEK! I'm glad I was able to go and experience this time with Sara and Brecca. And I got some great shots. Check em out.

home

I'm home in Minden for a few days. This will always be my home, but how, I'm not quite sure. I also call 1601 N Bryant Street my home in LR. I'm not sure why. All my "stuff" is there. My family is here in Minden. My past is here. My future could be either place. Everytime I come home (Minden home) people ask me when I'm moving back home. But when I go back to Little Rock, I think I am home. I love Little Rock. But Minden has its own essence of familiarity and friendliness. I don't have to explain myself in Minden. They already know. They just know me. And that is comforting. In Minden I am tied to my family which in Minden, is huge. Family is everything in a small town. If you don't have family, you don't have anyone. I am blessed to be associated with the best family in Minden. Seriously. If you don't know us, you should. We're pretty cool. :)

I guess, basically, I'm saying that it's nice to be home. Wherever home happens to be at the time.

kitty has a home

My old roommate, Jessi Watts, brought over a friend of her's to look at the kitty. She ended up taking him home. I think his new name is Desi as in Desi Arnaz on the "I Love Lucy" show. Cute name. I'm going to miss him but I'm glad he's in a new home.

This brought up the possibility of me being a kitty foster mom. I know that sounds quite hilarious, but there are many strays out there that just need to find a good home. If I could provide temporary housing for a while until a more permanent home could be established...well, I might just do it. The only problem is, what if I never find a home? I might end up with like 12 cats. I would definitely become "the cat lady" that my friends are afraid that I am becoming anyway. Well, it's a nice thought, you know, to help out the pet society and all, but I think my limit is two. Hazel and George. They are enough to handle.

thoughts on temptation

I can resist anything but temptation.
Oscar Wilde, Lady Windermere's Fan, 1892, Act IIrish dramatist, novelist, & poet (1854 - 1900)

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life.
Bible, New Testament, James, Chapter 1, Verse 12Biblical quotations (various authors)

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation leans on the doorbell.
UnknownQuotations by unknown authors

May you always consider it a victory...to resist a temptation.
the more you allow it in, the harder it is to resist it.

Grant is facilitating a photo contest on his blog. It is a good way to keep photographers (though amateur) fresh. Feel free to leave comments. Here is the photo I entered in Photo Contest #2. I really did not expect to do well, esp. since I was up against, well, Grant. His work is amazing. Check it out.
Feel free to enter the contest.

sunny skies and wedding rings

These two shots are from Robyn's wedding this past weekend. Just a couple to remember the weekend...not that I could forget. My favorite memory...watching "Friends" with Robyn.

Little Rock

I have grown to love this city. In the two years I have lived here (officially this month), I appreciate it's beauty. It has everything you could want...well, at least, everything I could want. The other day, I took some pictures of the state's capitol. Here is one I like. Obviously this is not the original color. I can't figure out how to fix it so I just left it. It's kind of cool with the red sky.

beautiful day for the park

Today I was able to take a few pictures of one of my friend's kids (Brylane and Brecca). They were so adorable. These are just a few of my favorites. I hope you enjoy.

Picture this

So if you know me, you know that I love to take pictures. I think ever since I can remember I've been buying those disposable cameras at Walmart and developing them in the one hour photo place. In highschool I made friends with the guy who worked there. He started giving me a discount because I was a "loyal customer."

In college, an old boyfriend bought me my first digital camera. It wasn't great compared to all the cameras now but it was great then. I used it until I could shoot with it no longer. The lens was scratched, the buttons were broken. So it was time to save.

Being poor in college, it took me about a year to save for the camera I have now. But I finally bought it. My dream camera...well, not exactly but it is a beauty. I've had it for two years almost and I'm about to wear this one out, as well.

So, I did my first "official" photoshoot with actual PEOPLE. lol not animals, not flowers, not buildings but people. I don't know why but people scare me. I'd much rather taken still life pics. But flowers and buildings don't pay money. I hate to admit this, but the world does revolve around money.

My dream is to one day have my own business on the side of a family, a husband, and a career as a mom. I would love to be able to make beautiful portraits and capture awesome expressions and intimate moments on film...well, digitally. Anyway, if you need your picture taken...just hollar. I'm looking for takers.

the B.I.B.L.E. yes that's the book for me.

I've been inspired today to get back into the Word. Not just studying it to fufill some "quiet time" need, but to really study it...like the Word is my textbook in the class of Life because well, it IS. I majored in religious studies in college but I'm having a hard time remembering significant events in the Bible...kind of embarrassing if you ask me. It's awesome to me how other religions know their stuff so well. I only wish Christians took to studying our religion, our God, and our beliefs that passionately.

So here's to studying the only book that truly matters... Cheers.

Filled with thoughts of NYC

New York was wonderful. Short but full... very full. Full of tours and trips and eating and WALKING. Full of freezing, shopping, and taking pictures. And at the end of it all, full of sore muscles and tired legs and swollen feet, but hearts and minds full of knowledge and satisfaction in a trip well deserved and well appreciated.

Never assume.

This is for men...all men, everywhere.

Never assume that your girlfriend knows how pretty she looks.

Never assume that you've told her enough times how much you love her.

Never assume that the last time you bought her flowers should make up for THIS time.

Don't ever assume that she is telling the truth when she says, "Nothing is wrong." or "I'm fine."

Never assume that your girlfriend knows how much you want her to come home with you for Easter or to meet your parents for dinner.

Never assume that your girlfriend knows she is invited. ALWAYS and I repeat, ALWAYS give her a special "in person" invitation no matter what event.

Never assume that Valentines Day is only a big deal to every girl in the world EXCEPT your girlfriend. Even if she says, "Let's don't give each other gifts this year, " ALWAYS buy her something...or even better, MAKE her something. Home-made gifts are always better..unless, of course, they are diamonds.

Don't ever assume that she is just gazing out the window at the pretty view. Chances are, if she's not gazing into your eyes, then you need to figure out what you need to apologize for.

Never assume that a blanket apology is good enough for your girl. A specific apology is needed for each crime committed.

Never assume that she has received enough hugs or kisses from you this week.

Always love her more than you did the day before.

Always apologize even if you would swear on your life that she is at fault, not you. It's not worth the fight.

Always get a card...no matter what holiday. And always, write a note in it. Don't just sign your name.

Always mention how much prettier she is than the super model on TV...even if she doesn't ask.

Never hesitate to answer NO, to the question, "Does this make me look fat?" We will ALWAYS ask it, even if we KNOW we look like a cow. We just want to hear the right answer.

Never hesitate to show emotion in front of her. We like a guy who is sensitive.

Never hesitate to turn to HER favorite show. Yours probably wasn't that important anyway.

Never hesitate to compliment as SOON as you see her all dressed up. Don't make it an after thought. Even waiting five minutes means that it wasn't the first thing that popped into your mind when you saw her.

Never hesitate to hold her as long as she wants.

Never hesitate to grab her hand in public.

Never hesitate to place your hand at the small of her back. It makes her feel safe.

Never assume she loves tv wrestling as much as you do.

Never assume she likes listening to loud annoying music. Most girls don't.

Never assume she knows what you are thinking. We can't read minds. (We realize men can't either and if I thought men were smart enough to get all of this on their own, I wouldn't write this.)

Never assume it is okay to insult anyone in her family, even if she does.

Always assume a one karrat is a minimum requirement.

Never hesitate to hang up with your buddy to take your girlfriend's phone call.

Never assume that she knows how important she is to you. Always tell her. Everyday. Twice a day.

These things were just on my mind today. I needed to get them out. Maybe this will help some poor lost boy out there.

Corn pizza??

Well, on Saturday evening I made myself get out of the house and go to Wild Oats Health foodstore. I spent $149 on "gluten-free foods." I may be broke but at least I'll be healthy. That place was so expensive. Man! But I did get my gluten free pizza. The crust was made with corn flour instead of wheat flour. Very interesting. I doused it with enough ranch dressing that it tasted okay. Guess I'll get used to it.

Buie and I hung out a lot this weekend which is always nice. I don't know what I'd do without him. He's so patient with me even when I'm an absolutel "girl." I could be crying and complaining about who knows what, and he's still patient and understanding. Never ceases to amaze me.

I did miss out on some girl time this weekend in Arkadelphia but I didn't feel well enough to go.
Tonight though, is Little Rock girls night. (Well, actually it's in Cabot) I guess I'll bring some corn chips and gluten free salsa.

I'm ready for a vacation. Let's go somewhere.
